Tom Shebell is a New Jersey trial lawyer who is committed to fighting for the rights of those who have suffered harm. Harm caused on the job, harm caused by another on the roadways, harm caused from defective equipment, harm caused by the negligent or intentional acts of another, harm caused by neglect during the course of medical, pharmaceutical, or nursing care … Born and raised in the Asbury Park area, Tom spent much of his boyhood years listening to his grandfather, father, and uncle discuss legal issues, and the impact that legal decisions made by courts or juries have on the lives of ordinary citizens. Some of Tom’s most vivid memories stem from stories told over dinner by his father, Tom Shebell, Jr., about his own experiences trying civil and criminal cases before Monmouth and Ocean County jurors. Tom knew by a young age that he would never represent big business or insurance companies. On the contrary, he always knew that he would fight tirelessly for people incapable of fighting against the major resources at the disposal of insurance companies, their employers, and big businesses. After graduating from The Dickinson School of Law (now Penn State Law) in 1991, Tom proudly clerked for Justice Daniel J. O’Hern, of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Early in his career, Tom dedicated himself to the representing ordinary people who suffered unfairly at the hands of insurance companies, corporations, and big business. To this day, Tom refuses to represent the interests of insurance companies, banks, employers, or big businesses. In addition to representing people injured through the negligence of others, he has also served as personal counsel to area physicians in defense of cases alleging negligent treatment, and is general counsel to the Boro of Fair Haven Fire Department. Tom’s primary legal focus involves civil jury trial work, and he has achieved several notable verdicts and settlements throughout his eighteen-year career. (See recent results section.) He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, a former member of the Supreme Court District IX Ethics Committee, and the Hayden Proctor Inns of Court. Tom practices law with his uncle, Ray Shebell, Esquire, at the Law Offices of Shebell & Shebell, L.L.C., located on Highway 35 in Ocean, New Jersey. Tom lives in the Boro of Fair Haven with his wife, Michelle, and their five children. In his spare time, Tom is passionate about bicycling, running, and skiing. He spends most spring and summer weekends racing throughout New Jersey, New York, and Vermont. Tom has incorporated his love for the sport of cycling into representing those injured while riding their bicycles throughout New Jersey, and is extremely knowledgeable in the laws and mechanics of bicycle versus motor vehicle collisions.
